Most Wiley journals offer Free Format submissions, but you should check the journal’s Author Guidelines on Wiley Online Library for specific submission requirements.
Before submitting through Wiley Authors, check that:
Supported file formats for the main document vary by journal. A journal will accept one or more of the following formats:
Note that when uploading your main document in LaTeX format, either as a single .tex file or as a .zip or .tar.gz archive containing multiple .tex files, you must upload a single, compiled PDF output file generated from your LaTeX main document file(s).
Also note that our submission system does not support executable or script file formats such as .exe, .bat, .js, or .vbs.

When you select your funders from our list of known funders, we can help you comply with funder publication mandates that may apply to you, such as:
If you cannot find your funder in our list, follow these steps to add them manually:
Important: We cannot help you comply with funder mandates if you do not select from our list of known funders.
Your eligibility for open access funding is automatically displayed during the submission process on the Open access step. Eligibility information only appears during initial submission, not for revisions.
A data availability statement specifies where the data, scripts, and other artefacts used to generate the analyses presented in an article are stored.
Wiley journals expect or mandate data sharing through a publicly available repository wherever possible, unless prevented by ethical, privacy, or confidentiality matters. All research- and synthesis-based articles must include a data availability statement, whether the data used in the article is shared or not.
For more information and standard templates, see Wiley’s Data Sharing Policies.
Some Wiley journals require a significance statement or plain language summary for certain article types. These statements explain the significance of your research at a level understandable to the general public and to scientists outside your field of specialty.
If your journal requires a significance statement, include it in the main text of your manuscript document. Check your journal's Author Guidelines for specific requirements.
If the statement is required but missing from your manuscript, add it and re-upload your main document.
If your journal allows you to select preferred editors, you can do so during the Additional Information submission step.
Depending on your journal's requirements, specifying preferred editors may be optional or required during initial submission and/or revision. The number of editors you can select may also vary by journal.
If the question is optional, this will be indicated beneath the question title.
Follow these steps to submit your data availability statement:
Note: the statement does not need to be included in your main manuscript document.
Wiley journals commonly use single-anonymized and double-anonymized peer review. For more details on these and other peer review models, read Types of Peer Review.
Some journals allow authors to select a model, while others have a set requirement.
Wiley requires both authors and peer reviewers to comply with our review confidentiality policy.
When submitting to a double anonymized journal, you must:
If you are not sure which peer review type will be used for a submission, check if Title Page is included under Upload Manuscript > Required Files. If a title page is required and the description is similar to the following, the submission will be reviewed using double-anonymized peer review.
Important: authors are required to maintain the confidentiality of the peer review process. Read our complete Peer Review Policy.
This table explains possible submission statuses your manuscript can have. For further assistance, contact the journal's editorial office.
| State | Description |
|---|---|
| Accepted | The submission process was completed with an Accept decision. |
| Accepted, Under Review for Production | The manuscript has been accepted, but additional updates may be requested. |
| Accepted, Updates Requested | The manuscript has been accepted, but additional updates are required before it can be published. |
| Draft | You have not yet submitted the manuscript. |
| In Revision | The Editor has requested that you revise the submission. |
| In Screening | The manuscript is going through standard screening checks. |
| Rejected | The submission process was completed with a Reject decision. |
| Replaced | The submission has been replaced by a newer submission through administrative action and is no longer active. The submission card includes a link at the top to the active submission that replaced it. |
| Submitted | You have completed the submission steps, and the manuscript has been submitted to the journal. Once a manuscript is successfully submitted, the system automatically assigns a unique manuscript number. Normally, the corresponding author will be notified of the manuscript number via email. |
| Under Review | The peer review process is underway. There are several factors that influence the time taken for review, most notably availability of peer reviewers. |
| Withdrawn | You have withdrawn the manuscript from consideration, or an Editor has done so on your behalf. |
When a manuscript is submitted with you listed as a co-author, you will receive an email notification. The type of notification depends on whether the journal collects ORCID iDs for co-authors:
If you receive an email invitation to connect your ORCID iD, follow the steps in that email.
In Wiley Authors, from your dashboard, you can only delete draft submissions, in other words, manuscripts that you have not yet submitted.
Important: Do not delete submissions made through Wiley Authors in an editorial system such as ScholarOne, as this will cause issues later in the submission process.
This submission step is skipped if no affiliations are included in the manuscript main document, nor are any affiliations specified for any author during the Author Details on page 30 submission step.
If this step is included, Wiley Authors will display a separate card for each affiliation.
Initially, each card is marked as Not Matched, which means you have not yet matched the institution name as you have specified it in the manuscript main document or during a submission step with an institution name from the database of institutions that Wiley Authors uses.
Wiley Authors will attempt to match each affiliation you provided during the Affiliations submission step with an institution listed in the Ringgold database. During this step, you can confirm if the institutions identified are correct, or, if necessary, manually associate institutions from the database with the affiliations you provided.
During this step, identifying your institution or organization is sufficient. It is not necessary to identify your specific department.
Verifying your organizations during this step does not affect any information in your manuscript or published article. Wiley will only use this information to identify any potential benefits you are eligible for based on your affiliations, such as to help you publish open access and ensure compliance with open access policies.
You attempt to resubmit a previously rejected manuscript, but the submission has been withdrawn in the editorial system, for example, ScholarOne.
Coordinate with the journal's editorial office as to how you can resubmit.
For example, the editorial office may advise that you start a new submission in Wiley Authors, as there is no further action you can take on a manuscript that has been withdrawn in the editorial system.
If the journal allows authors to withdraw manuscripts, contact the journal's editorial office and request that they withdraw your manuscript.
Once your manuscript is withdrawn, it will reflect as such on your Wiley Authors dashboard.
You will not be able to take any further action on this submission in Wiley Authors.
Wiley Authors displays correctly in the latest stable versions of Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox, and Safari.
Wiley Authors uses Javascript and cookies to enable many necessary features and to preserve your work. You must have Javascript and cookies enabled in order to use the site. After uploading your manuscript files, Wiley Authors attempts to identify the different parts of your manuscript, e.g., your Title, Abstract, etc., and then present them to you to confirm they were correctly identified or not. If they’re correct, click Confirm to move to the next step.
If they're not correct, click Something is wrong... and click and drag to select the appropriate part of your manuscript.
You don’t need to include section headings, such as Summary or Abstract, in your selections. For each step, only select the actual content of that section.
