Production and proofing process
What happens after my manuscript is accepted?
- Once your manuscript is accepted for publication, the editorial office will check your submission files to ensure they meet production standards.
- After this initial check, the files are sent to Wiley’s production team.
- Each author on the article will receive an email invitation to register or log into Wiley Authors to track the article through publication. Check your spam folder if you do not see the email.
- For further details about the process, visit our Publication Process page.
What does the responsible corresponding author need to do during the production process?
At this stage, the responsible corresponding author takes the lead by completing key tasks in Wiley Authors:
- Signing licenses for publication
- Reviewing and approving proofs
- Making open access payments, if applicable
Once the production team and the responsible corresponding author complete all required tasks, the final typeset version of the article is published online with a Digital Object Identifier (DOI).
What publication models does Wiley offer?
Wiley offers two main publication models:
- Early View & Issue
- The final typeset article is first published online in Early View.
- Articles in Early View are fully citable using a DOI and are later included in a specific journal issue.
- Continuous Publication:
- The final typeset article is published directly into an online issue.
- There is no issue curation or pagination in this model. This offers quicker publication of articles with final citation details and aligns with how most readers access content via search engines instead of browsing issues.
All authors will receive an email when the article is published.
How can I resolve questions or concerns during production?
If you have any questions about timelines, proofs, or production processes, your Production Editor is your main point of contact. You’ll receive their contact details (name and email) once your proofs are ready for review.
What if I am publishing in a journal that does not follow standard Wiley processes?
- A small number of journals do not use Wiley production and/or Wiley Authors, and they will not follow our standard processes.
- If this applies to your manuscript, contact the journal’s editorial office or society publishing office directly for assistance.
What resources are available to authors after publication?
After publication, several tools are available through Wiley Authors to help you share and track your work:
- Download the PDF version of your article for personal use
- Get a shareable link to distribute your research with collaborators
- Use article promotion tools to broader the reach of your article
How do I track citations to my published article(s)?
To track citations to your article:
- Log into Wiley Authors and select “Manage Article” from your dashboard.
- Alternatively, visit your article on Wiley Online Library (use the DOI link under the article title on your dashboard), where a clickable “Citations” count next to the DOI will reflect recent citations.
- You can also sign up for citation alerts by selecting “Track citation” under the “Tools” menu on Wiley Online Library and cite the article using “Export citation.”
