Geographical Waivers and Discounts
Wiley's partnership with Research4Life and our Open Access Pricing Parity Pilot enable research from institutions in certain countries and locations to be published open access by providing waivers and discounts on Article Publication Charges (APCs) based on their status as low- or middle-income or their purchasing power index value. This support is not intended to extend to researchers based in wealthier countries who are not part of the eligible research community. The full list of countries and locations is below.
Geographical waivers and discounts are only applicable for authors accepted to publish in our fully open access journals. Eligibility for a geographical discount is determined based on the affiliation of the responsible corresponding author.1 If a responsible corresponding author also qualifies for other discounts, only the highest discount will be applied, as discounts cannot be combined. Eligibility for a full waiver additionally requires that at least 50% of all authors on the manuscript are affiliated with institutions in the same eligible country group as the responsible corresponding author.2 Wiley does not currently offer geographical waivers or discounts for authors publishing open access in a hybrid journal.
After submission to a fully open access journal, authors are sent an email with an initial price or waiver estimate based on the information provided at submission, including the country of the responsible corresponding author. Waiver estimates will be confirmed against the full list of author affiliations prior to publication, and authors will be informed if their final eligibility differs from the initial estimate.
